GenScanner Privacy Quick Summary
TL;DR Overview

Local Scanning

Your camera feed is processed in real-time on your device. We never upload or save your scans or images.

No Servers

Scan history, preferences, and generated codes remain in your local app storage. We have no access to them.

Third-Party Ads

We show ads via Google AdMob, which collects device tags and general location details for ad delivery.

Secure Payments

Subscribing to Premium is handled entirely via Google Play or Apple App Store. We do not store card details.

1. Introduction

Koch Tech ("we," "our," or "us") operates the GenScanner mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.

2. Information We Collect

GenScanner operates largely offline, storing your information locally. The App collects information in the following ways:

Camera & Scan Data

GenScanner uses your camera to scan QR codes and barcodes. Visual recognition occurs inside your device. No camera feed is ever uploaded to external servers.

Photo Library / Gallery

If you upload an existing image from your device gallery to decode a barcode, it is analyzed strictly on-device. Your photo albums remain private.

  • Local History & Favorites: Your scan history, created QR codes, and dashboard stats are saved locally on your device using built-in file systems. Deleting the App clears this history permanently.
  • Custom Styles & Preferences: The layouts, favorite colors, dark mode selections, and toggles are stored locally on your device memory.
  • Crash Logs & Performance Data: Local logs (like error_log.txt) may be written when errors occur. These diagnostics stay on your device unless you manually submit them to our customer support.

3. Third-Party Services & Monetization

To support app maintenance and serve premium features, we rely on secure external SDKs. These third parties collect device identifier information governed by their policies:

  • Advertising (Google AdMob / Mobile Ads): We display standard ads via AdMob. AdMob may process your device IP, unique advertiser tags (such as Google AD ID or Apple IDFA), device model, carrier, and localized location to tailor ads and audit user counts. You can toggle personalized ad configurations inside your operating system settings.
  • In-App Purchases & Billing: If you select our Ad-Free Premium Plan, your transactions are finalized directly by Google Play Billing or Apple App Store Billing. We never collect or handle credit card details or bank routing info.

4. How We Use Your Information

Because the core scanning features run locally on your hardware, we do not compile or utilize your scan content. Information collected is used to:

  • Fulfill basic QR and barcode reader requests.
  • Deliver relevant banner and interstitial ads (unless Premium is purchased).
  • Authenticate and unlock purchases across your device instances.
  • Investigate hardware errors and debug application freezes.

5. Disclosure & Sharing of Your Data

We do not sell, barter, or distribute your private search histories to marketing brokers. We may share anonymized device diagnostics in the following scenarios:

  • Compliance with Law: When requested to comply with binding court warrants, subpoena requests, or security regulations.
  • Ad Partners: General device identifiers are shared with Google AdMob to coordinate mobile ad distribution.

6. Security of Your Data

Protecting user privacy is our core focus. Because your barcode scanning history remains in local database files, the safety of your information depends on your individual device security. We strongly suggest configuring lock screens (biometrics, fingerprint, passcode) to limit local snooping.

When communicating with external servers (for instance, to fetch ad formats or check billing status), we utilize industry-standard Transport Layer Security (HTTPS) to encrypt connections and block traffic eavesdropping.

7. Children's Privacy

GenScanner does not knowingly target or request information from minor children under 13. If we discover that any personal info of a minor child under 13 was compiled without verified parent permission, we will take immediate steps to discard it. If you suspect your child has shared credentials, please reach out to us at privacy@kochtech.com.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to align with legal mandates or product upgrades. The date of release is noted via the "Last Updated" text at the top of this page. We encourage you to check this page periodically to remain informed of updates.
